Gorgeous Pieces in This Year’s Classic Blue

Gorgeous Pieces in This Year's Classic Blue Posted On

When Pantone announces their color of the year every website that has anything to do with fashion or home decor rushes to show you how to work that color into every part of your life.

So why would we be any different?

Except that I’m never going to change everything in my house every year to incorporate someone else’s idea of thet latest, hottest color. (Do you? I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that – it’s just not me!)

What I don’t mind doing, though, is grabbing onto the annual color announcement as a way to find a matching gemstone to explore.

Since 2020’s Pantone Color of the Year is classic blue it has given me the perfect excuse for spending obscene hours looking at every blue gem I could find.

Yum!

I though for sure that London blue topaz would be the best match (maybe that was wishful thinking) and while it’s close it isn’t spot on.

What do you think? Just a touch more aqua in this London blue topaz ring than in the Classic Blue, right? Although, the longer I look at the ring the more I think it’s close enough for government work, as they say.

Might be because I REALLY like that ring…

I actually couldn’t find a gem that was a perfect match all the way around. Instead, I found some options where threads of this Classic Blue ran through an ocean of other blues.

I do love the ocean (says the girl who lives in the desert).

Azurite is one such example.

Which is why you’ll see classic blue hiding in these dangle azurite earrings.

Blue dumortierite is a aluminum boro-silicate mineral (says Wikipedia) that comes in a variety of blue shades.

Which explains why our Classic Blue is running like a thin river in the background of this cabachon cut pendant on a silver chain.

Labradorite is known to have a smokey grey hue with shades of blue mixed in and streaks of white.

In the right piece – like this kite-shaped, labradorite pendant – you’ll see our target blue. It’s usually sitting on the edge of any darker grey streaks.

A blue stone we’re more likely to already have sitting in a piece of jewelry at home is a sapphire.

In the right light, at the right angle, and with just the right stone I think you’ll see the Pantone color of the year. I’m certainly not going to walk up to you with a color chip and tell you it doesn’t work. Promise.

Don’t think they won’t get noticed, either. At a total of 5 carats those oval, blue sapphire earrings in 18k gold-plated silver are going to get some attention!

Skip the fact that it’s color of the year. If you like classic blue in jewelry form you have several, beautiful gemstone options.
